Sunday, September 27 Festivities started at 2:00 p.m. Food was served at 3:00 p.m. St. Matthew's Park, Nuangola, Pa |
The annual fall picnic was a relaxing afternoon with good food and good fellowship despite the cool weather. The pavilion at St. Matthew's Park was a blessing once the rain started in the late afternoon. What a difference in the weather from last year. In 2008 it was 90 degrees!
The
food was excellent, as usual. Michael Stretanski continues to be our chief cook
and bottle washer. Michael made two types of
halušky;
the Slovak
halušky
u bryndzu and
halušky
with cabbage. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and
other dishes were also on the menu. Andy Sofranko’s gulosh was the first course
with rye bread and butter, smačtna.
The dessert table was spread out fabulously with homemade pineapple squares,
brownies, cookies, white cake with coconut icing and much more. If you left
hungry, it was your own fault.
Many, many thanks and great appreciation to everyone who helped. We want you to know you are not forgotten and your help setting up, serving, and cleaning up made the day the success it was.
Bill Zdancewiecz had several boxes with surprises and other jars filled with goodies. All the picnic goers were asked to guess the contents. Prizes were awarded for those closest to the actual contents. It was a lot of fun. Some of the answers were very original. Lots of door prizes were awarded.
John Simkovick brought his key board, so we enjoyed singing our Slovak Folk Songs. Ja Parobek z kapušian was the first request.
Regardless of the weather, people are partial to the picnic as a time of fellowship. This year the wine might have helped not only keeping everyone warm physically but also socially.
