Jozef Murgaš Scholarship
The 2018
Father Jozef Murgaš Scholarship at King’s College - awarded to a first-year
college student from an area Catholic, private, or public high school - ceremony
was held on October 25th. The ceremony was held in the Father Jozef Murgaš Room
located at King’s on the Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
The 2018
recipients are Jo Anna Cox of Forty Fort and Madison
Dunlow of Wilkes-Barre. Ms. Cox plans on majoring in
exercise science and Ms. Dunlow plans on majoring in
education. Congratulations, ladies.
This
year's donors are Mrs. Mary Sullivan Murphy '81 and
Mr. Brian Murphy, Mrs. Dorothy Sullivan, and First
Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Senior Branch
615, Ms. Ann M. Kwak. Thank you, donors.
Mr. Frederick A. Pettit, Esq. '96, Vice-President
for Institutional Advancement, welcomed everyone to
the ceremony. The invocation and thank you was given
by Rev. John J. Ryan, C.S.C., PhD.,
President of King's College. Remarks were offered by
Mrs. Elaine Palischak.

In 2017, the Slovak Heritage Society of NEPA established the
Father Jozef Murgaš Scholarship at King’s College,
which will be awarded annually to a first-year student from an area Catholic,
private, or public high school.
On October 25, 2017 the first recipient was announced; Tyler
Herbinko, a resident of Harleigh, graduate of the Hazleton Area STEM School and
a management major at King’s was formally presented with the scholarship at a
ceremony. The ceremony was held in the Father Jozef Murgaš Room located at
King’s on the Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
SHSNEPA is grateful to Anthony '68 and Elaine Palischak, who are
the donors of the initial year of the scholarship. Mr. and Mrs. Palischak
attended the scholarship ceremony. Mr. Frederick A. Pettit, Esq. '96,
Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, welcomed everyone to the ceremony.
